Attic insulation rebate in Ontario (2026): up to $1,250 with no energy assessment

Ontario's attic insulation rebate is now up to $1,250 ($750 for cathedral ceilings and flat roofs), no energy assessment needed. How it works.

Attic insulation is usually the best value per dollar of any energy upgrade, and in 2026 it's also one of the simplest to get a rebate for. The standalone attic rebate rose from $1,000 to $1,250, and it doesn't need a home energy assessment.

What the rebate pays

  • Up to $1,250 for attic insulation.
  • Up to $750 for cathedral ceilings or flat roofs.
  • No home energy assessment is needed for this standalone rebate.
  • A program-qualified contractor must do the work.

The amount depends on how much insulation your attic has now and how much is added, so a thinly insulated attic generally qualifies for more.

How to tell whether your attic needs more

  • You can see the tops of the ceiling joists. Current insulation levels bury them completely.
  • The insulation is thin, patchy or compressed, especially near the eaves or around the hatch.
  • Upstairs rooms are much colder in winter and hotter in summer than the rest of the house.
  • Icicles and ice dams form along the eaves, a sign that heat is escaping into the attic and melting snow on the roof.

When to go further than the attic

If your walls, basement or floors over garages are also poorly insulated, the program's assessment stream may be worth more. Starting with a home energy assessment opens up:

  • Up to $7,700 for insulation across the home: attic, walls, foundation and exposed floors.
  • Up to $250 for air sealing.
  • $600 back for the home energy assessment itself.

The assessment stream is capped at $5,000 for homes heated mainly with Enbridge natural gas and $10,000 for homes heated with electricity, oil, propane or wood.

Deadlines

The program's own website doesn't list an end date as of September 2026, though some contractors report a completion deadline of November 30, 2026. Funding and rules can change at any time, so if you're planning attic work this year, don't leave it late, and check the program website before you book.

Before you book: make sure the contractor is program-qualified, and keep your invoice. We can measure your attic, confirm what the upgrade qualifies for, and include it in your written package alongside anything else your home needs.
