Is the consultation really free?

Yes. The phone consultation, the review of your energy signature and your custom package are all free, and there's no obligation to go ahead.

Why is the consultation done by phone?

Most of what we need to know is in your energy bills and how you use your home, so there's no need to arrange a visit just to get started. Anything that needs measuring is confirmed before installation.

What is an energy signature?

It's the pattern of how much energy your home uses, and when, across the seasons and the times of day. Together with your time-of-use rates, it shows where your money goes and which upgrades will actually make a difference.

What should I have ready for the call?

A recent electricity bill and gas bill (all pages), and a rough idea of how old your furnace, air conditioner and water heater are.

How much can I get in rebates?

Up to $10,000 for qualifying upgrades. The amount for your home depends on which programs are open, the upgrades you choose and your eligibility. We show the figures in your written package, and the program administrator makes the final decision.

How much will my upgrades cost?

It depends on your home and the upgrades you choose, so we don't quote prices before reviewing your energy signature. Your custom package lists every cost in writing.

Do heat pumps actually work in a Canadian winter?

Yes. The cold-climate models we install keep heating down to −30 °C. Some homeowners also keep their gas furnace as a backup for extreme cold snaps, and the system switches over automatically.

Do I have to do all three phases?

No. Each phase stands on its own, and plenty of homeowners only ever do one. We work in phases because the order affects both cost and results: insulation and mechanicals first, then windows and doors, then roof and solar. Your written package shows what each phase involves so you can decide how far to go.

Do I need a new roof before going solar?

Not always. Solar panels last for decades, so if your roof is near the end of its life, it's usually worth replacing it first. We'll look at this as part of your package.

Will solar keep my power on during an outage?

Not on its own. A grid-tied system without a battery shuts off during an outage for safety. With a battery and the right setup, it can keep your essential circuits running.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, for qualifying customers, subject to lender approval. We'll include the options in your custom package so you can compare them with paying up front.

Are you a government program?

No. Canadian Energy Standard is an independent, privately owned company. We help customers apply for the government and utility rebates they qualify for, but we're not part of any government agency or utility.

What areas do you serve?

We work with homeowners in [Your service area]. If you're not sure whether you're in our area, ask in your consultation request and we'll let you know.
